I spent the first three days prior to taking this image camping in the White River National Forest, hoping for beautiful sunrise light to capture this iconic landscape. It rained for almost the entire duration of the trip, but I continued to shoot the Maroon Bells at sunrise despite the nearly impossible conditions. Eventually, after all other photographers had given up, the Bells started to emerge through a moody layer of clouds and fog that later began weaving its way through the peaks. I'm glad I stuck it out.
